After returning from a two year Australian fellowship Jamie Kelly was appointed as a consultant surgeon at Southampton University Hospital NHS Trust in 2008. With obesity surgery training in the UK and abroad he became a key member of the bariatric service at the Spire Southampton hospital performing gastric banding, gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and revisional procedures.
Originally trained locally in Wessex he has advanced interventional endoscopic skills employed in such areas as endomucosal resection for early oesophageal and stomach cancers. This combined with his experience in obesity surgery makes him ideally suited to perform the POSE procedure.
“I feel we often see patients too late when the complications of obesity have started to develop. It is an incredibly brave step to acknowledge the problem and seek help. The POSE procedure may bridge this gap to help patients regain control in a safer, less painful and scarless way. Like all new procedures we must monitor results and ensure patient safety”
Mr Kelly is currently involved in national and international research trials to optimise patient treatment and care.
